Statutory mandate

To provide policy guidelines, standards and programmes that facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values and beliefs as a fundamental human right.

To ensure inclusive education that drives development, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4, the UNESCO Education 2030 Agenda and the education pillar of the current administration.

To sustain free and compulsory basic education in public schools in line with the Universal Basic Education Act of 2004, and to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the State.

To inspect, monitor and supervise teaching, learning and administration in every public and private school in Abia State, at both basic and post-basic level.

To maintain a complete register of schools, learners and teachers through ASBS-EMIS, and to use it for planning, staffing and targeted intervention.

To provide a safe, conducive and stimulating learning environment that develops self-worth, discipline, motivation and excellence in learning and character.
