ASLIN is the Abia State Learners Identification Number, a unique number for every child in the State whether they attend a public or a private school. It lets the Ministry follow a learner's progress from pre-school through senior secondary.

Your child's school issues it as part of its ASBS-EMIS return. If your child does not have one, ask the head teacher or principal.

ASTIN is the Abia State Teachers Identification Number, held by every teacher in the State in public and private schools alike. ASSIN is the Abia State Schools Identification Number, held by every school.

Together with ASLIN they let the Ministry plan staffing, infrastructure and intervention against real numbers rather than estimates.

Yes. ASBS-EMIS covers every basic and secondary school in Abia State, public and private. Registration is also the route by which an emerging private school gets support from the Ministry towards full licensing.

Yes. Abia State maintains free and compulsory basic education in public schools, in line with the Universal Basic Education Act of 2004. No child may be charged for admission, for lessons or for examinations in a public school.

This covers charges presented under any name, including development levies, PTA contributions made a condition of attendance, and examination handling fees.

The report goes to the Ministry, not to the school.

No. A receipt helps, and you can attach one if you have it, but a report is accepted without any document. Give the school name, the local government area, the amount asked for and roughly when.

You are not required to give your name. If you leave the contact fields blank the report is still recorded and still investigated; the reference number is how you follow it up.

If you do give a telephone number it is used only to ask you for more detail, and it is not passed to the school.

Recruitment is advertised publicly when approval to recruit is given. Watch the news page of this website and the official recruitment portal. There is no standing waiting list.

No, to both. Applications are free and are received only through the official recruitment portal. The Ministry appoints no agents, facilitators or middlemen.

Anyone asking you for money in connection with a teaching appointment is acting fraudulently and should be reported.

Requirements are stated in each advertisement and vary with the post. As a general position, a teaching appointment requires a recognised teaching qualification and registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.

Do not rely on this answer in place of the advertisement.

Inspection is continuous rather than scheduled. Inspectorate (Basic) works through four Zonal Inspectorate Offices at Aba North, Aba South, Umuahia North and Ohafia, with Area Inspectorate Offices in the local government areas. Inspectorate (Secondary) covers the post-basic level.

Inspections may be routine or unannounced.

The Ministry works through three education zones. Aba Zone covers Abia South, Umuahia Zone covers Abia Central and Ohafia Zone covers Abia North. The education zones page lists the local government areas in each.

Results are published on the students portal, and transcripts are requested through the eTranscript portal. Both are linked from the Portals menu at the top of this site.

You will need the student's ASLIN or examination number.

Apply in writing through your head teacher or principal to your zonal education office, which forwards it to the Ministry. State your current school, the zone you are applying to and your reason.

Transfers are considered against staffing need in both the releasing and the receiving school, so a transfer is not automatic.
